Indie in the Big D - The New Dallas Summer Kickoff Event.

The forecast for rain couldn't keep away the more than 600 people that attended the inaugural Alexa Machine Company's Indie in the Big D event last Saturday in Dallas. The open-air market, sponsored by the Dallas Observer, brought in independent artists from all over the city of Dallas and the state of Texas.

The Blacksheep family (Blacksheep Original and Blacksheep Limited) combined efforts and had a prominent corner display. Many of the attendees took advantage of the event discount and copped their favorite tees as well as jumped in on the #BlacksheepDallas "I'm the Blacksheep" photo area.

The event also marked a unique opportunity for brands to drop their summer series or sneaks of their upcoming lines. We took full advantage and dropped a few sneaks including our new summer line featuring cut and sew pieces inspired by a combination of Hawaiian florals and street art. A perfect way to welcome the start of summer...

The Dallas-based recording label, Brain Gang was well represented on stage featuring head-turning sets from Sam Lao and emcee K.MC. Each local artist, from hip hop to spoken word poetry, brought their distinct flavor that helped to lay fresh beats and a bangin' soundtrack for the day. The music, art and style spilled over into every corner of the event as booths turned into mini board meetings for upcoming projects and collaborative endeavors between labels, vendors and brands. We enjoyed exchanging ideas and best practices with everyone from Captain Greedi, Sangre Azul, Stem and Thorn, Cadera Clothing, Lies and Filth, The Good Child, Azimo, Octoh Skate Brand, Sym Art, Geoff Scott International to the folks at Alexa Machine Company with their Rejkt clothing brand.

Since the event wrap up, we have been incredibly overwhelmed with the feedback and have committed ourselves to continuing to help develop the indie movement in Dallas. The Blacksheep label was founded under the idea of originality in the face of conformity and it has embraced the independent, unique approach of Indie in the Big D.  From supporting small business to true independent and creative ventures, the spirit that Alexa Machine has captured lies in the cooperative approach seen by all who took part. Every label, brand and music group is in for positively making a mark on the city of Dallas' cultural landscape. On that note, stay tuned for big news from the Alexa Machine/Blacksheep Family camps on a collaborative effort poised to have a year-round influence on the Dallas indie scene.

Stand Out.
